SCI’s Keith Moseley Added to Line-up

May 1st, 2008 · No Comments

We are very excited to announced the addition of Keith Moseley (of String Cheese Incident fame) to our Saturday night line-up. Keith will open our Saturday show (with friends) and join the Everyone Orchestra for some double-rockin’, double-bass beatdowns with jamgrass buddy, Tye North.

Add to that the new additions of Pangaea first-timer James Beaton of Storm Large & the Balls and Everclear, and veteran Tony Furtado and that gives us a heck of a line-up. Can’t wait to see you there! Get your tickets now!

The Six Degrees of the Pangaea Project Benefit and The Everyone Orchestra

April 24th, 2008 · 12 Comments

Some of you may know the people involved in putting on the 4th Annual Panagea Project Benefit - Deb Delman, Executive Director of The Pangaea Project, Matt Butler, E.O. conductor, Craig Howard, Jason Mastrine, and Gene Ehrbar, who are promoting the show, to name a few. We were in a meeting the other day when someone started pointing out the various degrees of separation between all the players involved in this year’s celebration. It’s a pretty tight knit group.

Within minutes this fun game had extended to include us and fans like us so it got us to thinking, what if other people attending the benefit next month each posted their six degrees of the Pangaea Proejct Benefit with The Everyone Orchestra on this website…relevant details, stories, trivia, etc.  What will we discover about each other and the people around us?  Pangaea and EO are all about community so it seems only appropriate.  We can’t wait to hear your stories and learn how connected we all really are.

Here’s one to get you started. Feel free to create your own!

   •    Jeff Sipe and Tye North played together in Leftover Salmon.

   •    Jeff is the founder of Zambiland Orchestra to which EO attributes much of its’ inspiration.

   •    Matt Butler of EO met Stanton Moore while drumming at a Zambiland performance in Atlanta.

   •    When our friend and (likely) your’s, Sun Lee of KBOO Radio, won the guest conductor raffle at the benefit in ‘06 he was wearing a Zambiland t-shirt.

Here’s “conducting”, a video by Chelsea Chick

Setting the Stage for a BIG JAM with old friends and new

April 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hey Friends,

Matt the conductor here…

The Pangaea Project shows have always been special in the world of EO. This year is no exception as the lineup is full of some of my favorite players to make music with:  locals Darol Anger, Scott Law, Asher Fulero, Jans Ingber and Tye North, mixing it up with other EO alumni: Michael Kang, Jeff Sipe, Stanton Moore and some players new to the fold; Steve Berlin from Los Lobos and James Beaton from Storm and the Balls.  We’ll also be joined by MarchFourth Marching Band leader John Avril on vocals as he heads “the M4 singers”  to add some harmony and pizzazz to the Orchestra.  Plus our favorite local live painters, and….well, I can’t tell you any more of I’d be giving away all the surprises.

The history of musical collaboration and friendship between this years participants runs deep and I thought it would be fun to share and discuss all the ways we are connected.

Tomorrow: The Six Degrees of the Pangaea Project Benefit with The Everyone Orchestra.

For now though, I must retire to the rehearsal chamber to fill up my dry erase pens, clean my white boards and do some Yoga. 1,2,3,4…..Good Night!

Matt

Announcing the 4th Annual Pangaea Project Benefit Concerts!

April 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Each year, through the universal language of music, the PANGAEA PROJECT BENEFIT celebrates global awareness, culture, and youth leadership by activating music fans, artists, and progressive thinkers throughout the Northwest for a weekend of improvisational fun.

This year’s two-night all-star event features the improvisational mastery of The Everyone Orchestra conducted by Matt Butler with special guest performers Steve Berlin of Los Lobos, The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang, drummers extraordinaire Jeff Sipe of Aquarium Rescue Unit and Stanton Moore of Galactic, members of the March Fourth Marching Band - the M4 Singers, Asher Fulero, Strings For Industry bandmates Darol Anger, Scott Law, and Tye North, and many others. The Stanton Moore Trio will open the show on Friday, May 16th. Peak Experience’s Johnny Dwork will provide a special spoken word segment on both nights. Additional guests to be announced in the coming weeks.

What makes Everyone Orchestra performances stand out from other superjams is the conducting. Butler, along with several others, facilitates the jams using giant cue cards which direct the musicians and audience alike in a massive celebratory coming together. The directions include anything from key and time changes to mood swings and audience actions such as massive sing-a-longs, shouts, jumps, dances, song title suggestions and more.

The last annual benefit concert raised almost $20,000 for The Pangaea Project which engages teenagers from underserved neighborhoods in local and international service-learning projects by promoting the development of leadership skills, increasing global awareness, and fostering a commitment to work towards social change. Proceeds from ticket sales, raffles, and other donations will be contributed directly to The Pangaea Project .

Previous Pangaea Project benefits have been enlivened by guest speakers, politician Dennis Kucinich and environmental activist Julia Butterfly Hill. Ms. Butterfly Hill reflects on the Everyone Orchestra, “I was blown away by the talent, humor, love, and brilliantly orchestrated improvisation coming together in what truly can be described as magic.”

Tickets on sale Saturday, April 5th at 10am PDT online at pangaeabenefit.org. General Public onsale via Ticketmaster and the Crystal Ballroom Box Office on Friday, April 11th at 10am PDT.

The PANGAEA PROJECT BENEFIT is produced by Slipknot Productions and MAST Projects.
